Day 1: 2023 European Boulder & Lead Climbing Olympic Qualifier

GB Climbing athlete Erin McNeice delivered a noteworthy performance on Day 1 of the IFSC European Qualifier in Laval, France.

Commencing with the boulder round, McNeice had a strong start, quickly topping problem W1. She made quick progress on problem W2 but encountered difficulty unlocking the beta for the top. Although she couldn't secure the final move on problem W3, she finished the boulder round in 18th position.

Following a brief intermission for reset, the Lattice Training athlete from Kent displayed unwavering determination in the Lead competition, going one better and finishing 17th.

Erin's combined score of 100.5 placed her 19th overall, securing a spot in the semi-finals, with Oriane Bertone of France going through in first.

Tom Greenall, Head Coach for GB Climbing, run by the BMC, said: "Erin delivered a confident performance today, setting a strong precedent for GB athletes in Laval. With a 70-point round in reach in the Boulder competition, we hope it bolsters her confidence for the upcoming semi-final."

Erin McNeice, GB Climbing athelete, said: “I’m happy with my clilmbing today and felt relaxed despite the occasion. With the OQS in the spring, I’m taking this opportunity to learn and refine my process for this format. We managed the two rounds well and I’m excited to go again tomorrow in the semi-finals”

Erin will return to the competition on Saturday, October 28, participating in the Women's Boulder & Lead semi-final round. Jack MacDougall and Toby Roberts are competing in the Men’s qualifying round today.
